Once upon a Dime : A Math Adventure by Nancy Kelly Allen


This is a great book to use in any K-3 classroom and maybe even higher! Does money grow on trees? I guess they do in some situations... Everytime a dime is added we are going to have our students dive into how much money is total! Do you know how to count by your 10s? How do we know to count by our 10s? Dimes are worth 10 cents! There is many things that you are going to learn in this book, and I think it is going to be a great adventure that we are going to take with these characters.

This is a good book because we can learn many things in this book. We can learn that dimes are worth 10 cents. We can also learn how to count by our 10s, which is something our students are going to have to know how to do. I think that I would have fake money and have the kids show different ways to get the same totals. I believe this would be a great way to start talking about money!

What is Precipitation? by Robin Johnson



What is precipitation and how does it happen? Precipitation sometimes ruins are plans, sometimes we look forward to it, and sometimes it will determine what your day will be like. Would you believe me if I said precipitation can impact many things you do?  We all know it rains and snows but how does that really happen? Precipitation is something that is going to happen for the rest of our lives so lets learn about what it really is... 
I think this would be a really great book to read to start up a science lesson. It would give great background information on how to determine what precipitation is. They will see that word and think that it is a big word and will get worried until they make a connection on what it really is after reading the book.
